This is one of my favorite art works that Micah did during his first grade year. He was pleased that I recognized what artist had inspired him. He even remembered some Matisse information that his art teacher talked to his class about. He told me that once Matisse's health became worse that it was easier for him to cut out his shapes for his art than to paint them.

Inchies

Well I found my other set of inchie collection from the alphabet swap that I was in. The filled in my blank spaces nicely and now this fun collection hangs in my art studio. Or I guess I should say "our" art studio since I share the space with the boys.

Garrett's Halloween Art

Garrett enjoyed making this haunted house in his 2nd grade art class. I liked this project myself so much that I am going to try it with my 2nd graders at Myers next year.

Micah's Halloween Landscape has it all, ghost, fall tree, crecent moon, spider web, stars and pumpkins. He really enjoyed painting in his 1st grade art class.

Halloween may be over but I had to post the boys in their costumes. Don't they look cute?

I have been trying to talk the boys into homemade costumes but they usually want something off of the shelf. Fortunately Garrett was game to put together an astronaut costume. It all started with a large cheese puff container that Craig cut the bottom off and lined with electric tape. This allowed Garrett to put it on his head without the rough plastic scratching his neck. His favorite part was his jet pack. I think he had more fun putting it together than he did wearing it. We are already thinking about what we can make for next year. I think I'll be able to talk Micah into something too.

Rainbow Inchie Collection

**********************************I wanted to share with you my collection of inchies. I hosted a swap for rainbow inchies back in September and finally put them together in a frame. This is the inchies out of the frame because the glare on the glass make it hard to see the inchies in the photo. It is a black frame that is made to display things that are 3d since some of these inchies are not flat. There are some spaces that are empty. I will fill them later. I will hang it the way it for now because I enjoy looking at it. It makes me smile. I can fill the empty spaces later. I have some inchies somewhere else in craft room but they are currently hidding. A few of them are mine of course but the majority of them are from my swapping frames. Thanks ladies I had a lot of fun arranging them and I am inspired when I look at them.

Garrett's turkey

Okay so it isn't even November yet but I happened to have this photo on my computer and it is adorable don't you agree? Well, Garrett made this turkey last year when he was in first grade. In the school hallway there were many multicolored turkeys. Garrett's was the only one that used realistic colors. That is the outdoorsmen and hunter in him. He did add one feather that was a bit fanciful. He called it his lucky feather. Just thought I would share this with you. Next post I will put one of Micah's masterpeices on so stay tuned.

Dinosaurs and Helicopters

My boys have many art interests and are often keeping me busy with helping them unearth their supplies. Our "art studio", which used to be my craft room, is not the tidyest. But to be truthful my part of the room is probably messier than theirs. A more organized, aesthetically pleasing room is on my list of things to work on. But inspite of it all, we still manage to create.

Recently my oldest, Garrett, is into Dinosaurs. He likes the carnovores, because then he can draw sharp teeth with dripping blood. Micah, my youngest has been drawing camoflauge helicoptors that need to be "just so". He is my perfectionist. Last evening we searched the living room for his missing colored pencil that was just the right color of green to go with his dark green and brown. They both have great vision of what they are creating. I love to hear the stories that go with their pictures.

In Search of "My" Medium?

I am often going in different directions with my artistic interests, depending how the wind blows. I am always searching for my nich in art, the medium that is just right for me. There was a time when I worked in Stained Glass and thought that was "my" medium. Once I became pregnant with my first son I gave that up because of the lead and flux. I had already grown somewhat tired of it anyway. I made a couple clay mosaics for gifts and one for our by front door to welcome friends. I still plan to dabble in clay some but I haven't done much in a while.

As an art teacher I have a good excuse to play with different mediums. It is how I have become a jack of many trades and master at none.

I enjoy crafting because there is the instant gratification of creating something. I would like to find my nich in a more "fine art" type medium but for now I will continue to dabble in crafts. I started in scrapbooking which evolved into card making. And recently I have played with inchies and ATC's.

Is there anyone else out there who is searching for their perfect medium?
